تجيب على السؤال الدكتورة إيناس شلتوت أستاذ أمراض السكر بطب القاهرة ورئيس الجمعية العربية لدراسات السكر، قائلة: المعروف أن السبب الرئيسى فى الإصابة بأمراض الشرايين التاجية يرجع إلى إصابة الأوعية الدموية الكبرى بسبب الارتفاع المزمن لنسبة السكر فى الدم مما يؤدى لتفاعلات داخلية تسبب زيادة عوامل نموهذه الأوعية الذى يؤدى إلى زيادة سمك جدار الشرايين وانسدادها وقلة سريان الدم خلالها.

وتؤكد الطبيبة، أن مرض نقص حساسية الأنسولين والذى يصيب مرضى السكر خاصة النوع الثانى والذين يعانون من (الكرش) مع الزيادة بالوزن التى تصل إلى حد السمنة، من أهم أسباب الاصابة بأمراض شرايين القلب، بالإضافة إلى ارتفاع ضغط الدم وزيادة الدهون الثلاثية ونقص نسبه الكوليسترول المرتفع الكثافة المفيد.

وتشير الطبيبة إلى أن مريض السمنة يمكنه التغلب على كثير من المضاعفات بضبط مستوى السكر فى الدم إلى المستوى الطبيعى أو ما يقاربه وذلك أن تكون نسبه السكر الصائم فى الدم 110 إلى 120 وبعد الأكل حوالى 150، وفى حالة مصاحبة مرض ارتفاع ضغط الدم مع السكر، فيجب ألا يزيد ضغط الدم على 80/ 135، لتجنب الإصابة بمضاعفات السكر على شرايين القلب، بالإضافة إلى أهمية تنفيذ المريض لبرنامج علاجى وغذائى منتظم لمنع المضاعفات على الأوعية الدموية.
